.: programming :.

I have done various software projects over the years, with varying complexity, and varying levels of completion. Usually I reach a point in a project where it is "good enough" for my purposes and then stop. While there is always room for improvement, it's always a balance between time and demand. So, with that said, if you find any of these programs useful and would like to see more, just let me know!

Trowl

Currently Trowl has its own webpage, but I will add more details here as time allows.

WallpaperPlayer

Thank you for downloading WallpaperPlayer!

Just a reminder that this program is in ALPHA stage. This means that it hasn't been tested thoroughly, and it is likely that you will come across bugs. Never fear, though. If you find any problems, let me know and I will fix it as soon as possible! And of course, any suggestions on features and usability will be considered in a future version.

In either case, it would be very much appreciated if you could please submit any feedback via email or twitter.

WallpaperPlayer.exe
ALPHA 2.5; 242KB; XP/Vista; .NET Framework Required (Also available on Windows Update)

This project came about in response to the utter lack of decent wallpaper management programs for Windows. Most utilities that handle this job -- whether built into the OS or third party -- only care about one thing: randomization. And that's all well and good, but there is so much more potential.

So, WallpaperPlayer has several goals in mind:

The program is currently in alpha2 stage, meaning there are still a large number of bugs yet to be resolved. In addition, the smart playlist feature isn't even implemented yet. Until it is, the program will remain in alpha. My next priority is actually to tweak the code that determines what wallpaper to apply when wanting to show temporal-relevant wallpapers.

iTunes Remote

I commonly use two computers at once, side by side, with a program called Multiplicity. This allows me to use the same keyboard and mouse to access both machines -- sort of like a KVM switch, but allowing two separate monitors and seamless connection between the two computers.

I sometimes like to listen to music in iTunes while playing a game, such as World of Warcraft. The problem is that my "best" speakers are hooked up to the same computer that I play the game on. So, if I need to control anything about what is going on in iTunes, I need to switch away from the game.

So, I created this program to act as a way of controlling iTunes from my second computer. It consists of a "server" which sits on the iTunes box, and a "client" which sits on the otherwise unused box. Using basic network communication, it allows the user to see what is going on in iTunes, and control it as necessary.

The key bit here though is "basic network communication". It is very rudimentary and inefficient. If I start putting work into this again, one of my first tasks would be to change how the networking is implemented. Still, this is a nice little app for controlling iTunes -- and while the usefulness of it is reduced slightly by Apple's own iTunes remote for iPhone & iPod Touch, it has its place.
